GALA Symphony Concert

Saturday, 26 August 2017
7.30 pm, Gstaad Festival Tent

For his second concert in Gstaad at the head of the Orchestra dell'Academia della Santa Cecilia Roma (an institution created by the pope in 1585), Sir Antonio Pappano reviews a bit of the history of the prestigious Italian ensemble. Since 1908 it has been conducted by the greatest musicians of the time (Mahler, Debussy, Strauss, Stravinsky…), and it was this ensemble that performed the world premieres of Ottorino Respighi’s “Fountains of Rome” and “Pines of Rome” in 1917 and 1924. The first half of the concert features one of the world’s superstars on the piano: Evgeny Kissin. A student at the Gnessin Music School in Moscow, he began playing the piano at the age of two – and he hasn’t left the keyboard since! Perhaps you remember his first appearance in Gstaad? He was 25 years old. This concert is guaranteed to be memorable!

This concert is offered by Mrs Aline Foriel-Destezet.
