International Piano magazine titled him “the last of the titans”. It's true that there's something titanic about the way Grigory Sokolov plays, about the way he performs. Like Richter or Gould before, his concerts are events, his live recordings (released by Deutsche Grammophon) are awaited as one awaits the next episode of a cult series. Far from the manufactured hits that clutter up the CD and glossy magazine covers, the Russian's recipe is quite simple: music, and nothing else!
