How can one pay tribute to Vienna without honouring the music of one of its most iconic masters, Johann Strauss II? Led by Alfred Eschwé and his Wiener Johann Strauss Orchester, his waltzes and polkas will be well and truly present under the Gstaad Festival Tent during this grand final gala ... but they will by no means be the only ones! For the vibrant and fun-loving audience in Vienna during the 19th and early 20th centuries, the often gypsy-flavoured operettas of Franz Lehár and Emmerich Kálmán, as well as the candy-pink productions of Carl Zeller, were just as thrilling. Not to mention Rudolf Sieczyński, a Viennese of Polish descent – these were the final flames in the cultural mosaic of the immense Habsburg Empire ... – author of the iconic, timeless “Wien, du Stadt meiner Träume” [Vienna, city of my dreams], a song that has become a symbol of the nostalgia for those bygone days. We may rely on Polina Pasztircsák and Dovlet Nurgeldiyev to render these velvet pages deliciously ... sweet!
