To launch the 5^th edition of the Gstaad Piano Academy, which he will be directing in the Gstaad Kirchgemeindehaus from 20^th to 24^th July, Sir András Schiff chose a return to fundamentals, i.e. to Johann Sebastian Bach, whom he had so beautiful served during an evening concert in tribute to the founder of the Festival.

After the Goldberg Variations, the first book of Preludes and Fugues of the Well-Tempered Clavier, written – as noted at the top of the score – «zum Nutzen und Gebrauch der Lehr-Begierigen Musicalischen Jugend» («for the use and profit of young musicians»)… What better musical icon could there be, as a complement to the Master Classes?
