Although the second violin sonata has been given the name “Thun Sonata” by posterity, the third violin sonata has equal claim to this title since Brahms also composed it during the same summer while staying on the shores of Lake Thun. Patricia Kopatchinskaja and Polina Leschenko bring the work to life, together with other masterpieces for violin and piano, ranging from Beethoven’s “Spring Sonata” to Kurtág’s “Tre Pezzi”, nearly two centuries of music.
