60th Gstaad Menuhin Festival

With a touching homage to Yehudi Menuhin by six violinists the 60th Gstaad Menuhin Festival „Musique & Famille“ came to a close. Roby Lakatos, Gilles Apap, Valeriy Sokolov, Volker Biesenbender, Didier Lockwood, L. Subramaniam gave a performance that will be remembered beyond the years. A new visitor record was achieved:  26’000 people attended the over 75 events held at various locations in the Saanenland and Pays-d’Enhaut. With this number the festival achieved a new record the third year running, a total increase of 10%.

Jaap van Zweden

Principal Conductor of the Gstaad Festival Orchestra and the Gstaad Conducting Academy as of 2017

The Dutch conductor Jaap van Zweden, who has been announced as new music director of the New York Philharmonic effective 2018, will be heading the Gstaad Conducting Academy and the Gstaad Festival Orchestra in Gstaad as of 2017.

Happy Birthday, Yehudi!

The Gstaad Menuhin Festival has doubled its efforts in order to celebrate fittingly the 100th anniversary of the birth of its founder. Many artists spontaneously suggested that they would like to pay homage to the maestro, such as his disciple Daniel Hope (24 July), pianist András Schiff (who will dedicate three concerts to him at the end of July) or violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaja (20 August).
